Protect your production assets and intellectual property with a Bill of Sale tailored for the Washington media industry. From high-end cameras to raw B-roll and post-production assets, this document ensures clear transfer of ownership while complying with the Washington Consumer Protection Act and RCW 19.36.010 (Statute of Frauds). It specifically addresses the professional liabilities of video production, such as copyright transfer under the Copyright Act of 1976 and the mitigation of talent or location disputes through formal documentation.
Beyond the standard bill of sale sections, this template adds fields specific to Video Production Company:
A Bill of Sale serves the core legal purpose of providing proof of the transfer of ownership of an item from the seller to the buyer. It formalizes the transaction and fulfills the legal need for documentation of the sale, aiding in preventing disputes over ownership and clarifying the terms and conditions agreed upon by the parties involved.
Copyright Infringement
Use contracts that include warranties of originality and appropriate licensing agreements for footage and music.
Breach of Talent Agreement
Implement clear contractual terms detailing talent obligations, rights, and compensation.
While a standard Bill of Sale focuses on tangible assets, our document includes specific Seller's Representations regarding the Copyright Act of 1976. For a full transfer of intellectual property (like B-roll or storyboards), it is recommended to explicitly list these as deliverables to avoid future licensing disputes.
Under RCW 26.16, assets acquired during a marriage or domestic partnership in Washington may be considered community property. This Bill of Sale confirms the Seller's Representation that they are the legal owner with the full right to transfer the item without third-party or spousal liens.
While not always required for small gear, Washington best practices suggest notarization for high-value production equipment or studio sales to ensure enforceability and provide proof of authenticity in case of future insurance or equipment liability claims.
